GLASGOW Central Station is helping a national charity make headline news.

The British Red Cross unveiled a giant piece of interactive art at Scotland's biggest railway station to launch its annual fundraising and awareness drive.

The 24ft by 9ft canvas, modelled on a newspaper, was unveiled by Amy Ebbutt, who starred in the role of Crisis in the charity's national TV advertising campaign.

The theme for this year's fundraising drive is Refusing To Ignore People In Crisis.

Commuters are being given the chance to be photographed on the artwork in return for a donation, which can be posted to social media pages.

The campaign will be hitting Scottish TV screens again this week as part of Red Cross Week.

Ms Ebbutt said: "Playing the part of Crisis in the advert really made me think. We all face times of crisis and they can be traumatic.

"The Red Cross is there to help vulnerable people cope in times of crisis. So when it asks you for help, please don't ignore it – it wouldn't ignore you."

Anne O'Neill, Red Cross fundraising manager for Scotland, said: "Red Cross Week is our annual UK-wide fundraising drive. The money we raise enables us to continue delivering the vital services we offer to people in Scotland, elsewhere in the UK and abroad.

"It is thanks to the generosity of the Scottish people and those elsewhere that we are able to be there for those who need us."
