More than 7000 musicians, dancers, singers, and teachers involved in the Glasgow Music Festival will showcase their talents over the next two weeks.

Run by volunteers, the festival highlights top amateur performances in music, speech, drama and dance.

Vice chairwoman Jenny Laidlaw said: "The festival gives a platform for performance, and gives people the opportunity to perform in front of others and to raise their self esteem.

"It gives them an opportunity to get professional feedback from adjudicators which might better them in future."

Now in its 102nd year, the event will run until March 15 at the Scottish Youth Theatre, Renfield St Stephens Church, the City Halls and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
