A TEENAGER has been arrested and charged over allegations of illegal deer hunting with dogs on a city golf course.

Police officers say they recovered three deer skulls and two illegal snares during a raid on a house in Knightswood, Glasgow.

The 19-year-old man has been charged under the Protection of Wildlife Mammals Act and the Wildlife and Countryside Act.

Strathclyde Police said they acted following allegations that dogs had been used to hunt deer on Knightswood Golf Course.

A statement from police said: "As part of the force's ongoing commitment to tackle wildlife crime, officers acting under warrant, searched a house in Swallow Gardens, Knightswood, in Glasgow, following allegations of illegal deer hunting by dogs within Knightswood Golf Course.

"During the raid, which took place on November 7, and also involved the SSPA, officers seized three deer skulls and two illegal snares.

"A 19-year-old man is the subject of a report to the procurator fiscal."

Two dogs found on the property, a lurcher and a greyhound, which are alleged to have been used to hunt deer, were not removed by officers.

It is understood the courts will decide the animals' fate.
