THREE Glasgow teenagers have taken their first steps towards a career in the railway after beginning ScotRail's Modern Apprenticeship scheme.
Liam Cooper, 16, a former Hillhead High pupil, Rebecca Shaw, 17, from Rosshall Academy, and Louise Hughes, 19, former Notre Dame High pupil, are among 15 young people from across Scotland who recently started the company's Modern Apprenticeship in Customer Service.
The 18-month programme gives apprentices the opportunity to apply for a job upon successful completion. The programme - a UK rail industry first - is designed to provide each apprentice with personal development training and the opportunity to achieve a Level 2 Scottish Vocational Qualification in Customer Service, as well as a Gold Duke of Edinburgh's award.
Each apprentice will be given placements in four customer service roles - station booking office, gateline, ticket examiner and on-train hospitality host.
