THE Renfrew Ferry is just about as far as one can possibly be from the glitz and glamour of the gambling paradise that is Las Vegas, Nevada, with its endless casinos and high-kicking showgirls.

Step forward then the team from Vegas Scotland, who, once a month for the last ten years, have turned this former Clyde workhorse into a hip-shaking, all-singing, all-dancing American extravaganza.

Add in a cast of characters ranging from compére Frankie Sumatra; to Dino Martini and Bugsy Seagull (see a pattern emerging here?) and the Vegas showgirls, and you have one of the most decadent parties in the country.

Behind the decks on Saturday was Frankie Sumatra, leader of the Vegas rat pack, and his mix of Latino rhythms, big-band swing and jumpin' jive made for a packed dancefloor all night.

The Vegas guys and dolls (punters in Glesga terms) go over the top when it comes to their outfits - no G-Star jeans or River Island cardigans here. Try feathers, cocktail dresses and the biggest heels you can find. Guys go for the Rat Pack look, favouring sharp tailoring, braces, Cuban heels and fedoras. Failing that, spangly one-piece jumpsuits and sideburns also stood out.

With no pretensions whatsoever - just a relaxed, good-time vibe, Vegas is one of the few club nights where anyone is welcome and everyone is in the same boat (so to speak). Cooler than a freshly-strained Manhattan, but hotter than the Nevada desert, Vegas Glasgow really is a night you have to experience for yourself.
