KIDS enjoying a family day out in George Square were horrified to see images of a lion mauling a deer on a giant screen.

KIDS enjoying a family day out in George Square were horrified to see images of a lion mauling a deer on a giant screen.

The scenes were part of a trailer for a blockbuster film, and were being shown yards from the children's rides in the square for Christmas.

But the film, I Am Legend, has a 15 rating from the British Board of Film Classification and should not be seen by kids under that age.

The scenes have now been pulled from the screen, on the old post office.

One passerby, who asked not to be named, said he was shocked by the images. He added: "I just happened to look up and got the fright of my life.

"Will Smith was watching this deer graze and then suddenly out of nowhere comes this lion. You think you're watching an almost pastoral scene with this cuddly little deer, then this thing zooms across the screen and suddenly the deer gets devoured in one gulp.

"It was one of those scenes that if you had seen it in the cinema, you would jump. It was quite shocking.

"And then I noticed all the rides for toddlers.

"Whoever is advertising the trailer is probably making a lot of money out of it, but how can they control who's seeing it?"

The old post office building is being refurbished by Bellshill-based HF Developments, which has leased the screen to raise funds for the renovation.

A spokesman for Ocean Outdoor, which manages the screen on behalf of HF Developments said: "Ocean has stringent vetting procedures in place to ensure that every creative posted on our sites is free from material that may cause offence or distress to any member of the public.

"Ocean Outdoor would like to apologise for any offence caused to any members of the public who have viewed the current film trailer being shown. This advertisement has been immediately withdrawn pending an investigation to be concluded very shortly."

Caroline Lavelle, from the British Board of Film Classification, said: "That trailer should not be shown because in a situation like this you cannot guarantee who is going to see it.

"The responsibility for who sees the trailer lies with the person showing it and they must ensure it is only seen by people over 15."
