SO it's my first column of 2014 and I'm hoping you all had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I had a lovely time with friends and family on Christmas Day and I was extremely honoured to bring in the bells with some of you on STV with my Swing into 2014 show accompanied by the very talented Tommy Chambers.

It's the time of year, though, when people are all full of energy and set for change, with New Year's resolutions being bandied about like kisses in the Celebrity Big Brother House - the first few days viewing have been a truly creepy toe-curling experience and don't even get me started on that Luisa girl from the Apprentice - but I digress.

Yes, January is always the month that I decide to take the bull by the horns and wire my jaws shut to shed the weight and give Kelly Brook a run for her money.

It's when I pledge to swap the alcohol for vegetable juices and mineral water, and stop my party girl ways to settle down once and for all with a nice stable man and have lots of babies.

Sadly the reality was that only a few hours into 2014 I was on my second bottle of wine, third king rib and fending off the advances of a man in my local pub who had never been introduced to a tooth brush.

I'm not saying that he was unattractive but when everyone started shouting, "the bells, the bells" at midnight I thought it was a dig at Mr Notre Dame himself.

So not the best of starts to my new healthy lifestyle for 2014.

However, I'm not one to give up at the first hurdle so I'm determined to start afresh again this week, and give those New Year's resolutions another shot.

There is so much to look forward to this year as my little sister and best friend are having babies.

I'm also planning to take my 2013 sold out One Woman show on tour across Scotland, and I have the most exciting year of television planned, so things are looking rosy.

For those of you who have made resolutions, don't be downcast if you are sharing my difficulty in keeping to them.

A wise woman once told me: "May all your troubles last as long as your New Year's resolutions for a New Year's resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other.

IF you haven't managed to see a pantomime over the festive period, fear not as The Magical Adventures of Pinocchio at the Pavilion Theatre in Glasgow is on until January 19.

It's a fantastic fun filled family show with myself as the Blue Fairy, River City's Stephen Purdon as Pinocchio and the hilarious Johnny "I'm enjoying myself" Mac as Jiminy Cricket.
