HOW many of us made New Year resolutions to get fitter and healthier, and how are we getting on as January draws to a close?

The Evening Times, backed by our partners Glasgow Life and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, wants to help ensure that Glasgow is a healthier and more active city at the end of 2014 than it was at the start of the year.

The next 12 months is a big year for the city as it hosts the Commonwealth Games and has the opportunity to bring health and economic benefits that have been badly needed for some time.

During the Games, the focus will be on the elite athletes who will perform at the highest level, and no doubt records will be broken and new stars will be born.

However, we don't need to leave it to global superstars like Usain Bolt on the track and homegrown medal hopes like Michael Jamieson.

We can all do something and make the year of the Commonwealth Games the year Glasgow got active.

Walk more, take up an exercise class, eat better or give up smoking or something that you know will lead to 2014 being the year you improved your health.

Our Active 2014 campaign wants to help people get fitter. Do a little or do a lot, but the important point is do something.
