THE increase in the numbers of people using the Glasgow Life facilities is great news for the city.

It is good news for the tourism and hospitality industry, with people flocking to museums and galleries, many being visitors from outside the city and abroad.

It is good news for the health of the city that more people are taking advantage of the sporting facilities at the various gyms and leisure centres in communities.

The Commonwealth Games has added new venues to be used by the public and refurbished others - from the Emirates Arena, providing new gym and sports hall facilities in the East End, and improvements to the Aquatics Centre at Tollcross and the leisure centre at Scotstoun to the newly-laid bowling greens at Kelvingrove.

The range of facilities old and new means there is something to suit the needs, tastes and abilities of anyone who wants to get fitter this year.

The Evening Times Active 2014 campaign is promoting that very objective, encouraging everyone to do something, however small to take the first steps to a fitter and healthier lifestyle.

Everyone should be aware of the facilities available and encouraged to use them, and those who already do should tell a friend and help Glasgow get Active in 2014.
