iT'S been a week of babies and births in the celebrity world with Liberty X singer Michelle Heaton and No Doubt frontwoman Gwen Stefani both becoming new mums this week.

I am also delighted to say that our family joined the boys club over the weekend when my sister Laura and her husband Christopher welcomed little Sam James Casey into the world on Saturday morning weighing a whopping 8 lbs 07oz.

Its their first child, both our families first ever grandchild and it was the first time my father had ever heard the words, "It's a boy," so as you can imagine after a 34 year wait it was like a scene from Disney's The Lion King when big John stood in the ward at Glasgow's Princess Royal Maternity Hospital holding little Sam aloft while singing Elton John's Circle of Life and I don't think he's stopped crying since.

I can not tell you the joy that little man has brought to our family already and how wonderful it feels to be an auntie, I genuinely don't think I've ever felt love like it.

Hopefully Sam will be the first of many babies our family will be blessed with over the next few years and with five daughters it's entirely possible that between us all my dad might actually get that football team of grandsons he's always dreamt about.

SO yesterday saw the start of Lent and it turns out I have zero willpower to give up anything.

Not that it will come as a shock to those of you who read this column every week, but still this would be the perfect time to give up one of my many vices, mainly food and alcohol, especially as I am in full swing Active 2014 mode.

I've joined the gym, I'm having a pint of vegetable juice every morning for breakfast and Ieven attended my first Aqua Zumba class last night and with not one pound of me moving in time with the music, it was not a sight for the faint hearted let me tell you.

I even thought about giving up social media for the six weeks but I didn't even last two hours.

I'm the kind of girl who wakes up in the morning, checks my email, my Twitter, my Facebook page and then the news websites all before I even get out of bed actually come to think of it writing all this done may shed some light on the great mystery of why I'm still single and haven't been snapped up before now by George Clooney.

I'm thinking I may just have to bite the bullet on this one and give up chocolate and be done with it. I'll update you next week on how it's going.
