A GLASGOW charity is today celebrating the latest victory in the crackdown on crime in Glasgow.

The reason is a forward-thinking approach by Police Scotland who linked up in an unlikely alliance with a series of corporate giants who put the needs of the poor ahead of their normal business policies.

Normally fake products seized in raids by officers are destroyed to protect the brand.

However, by getting the agreement of companies such as Armani, Prada and Adidas, counterfeit goods worth in excess of £300,000 seized by the police have now been handed to Glasgow The Caring City charity.

The result will be that fashionable clothing will soon be winging its way overseas to needy communities.

Police Scotland deserve great praise for brokering the deal which so directly assists such a worthy cause.

Similarly the firms involved have shown great vision by being prepared to listen to the case put forward and to be part of such a creative and philanthropic solution.

Every effort should be made to deliver similar outcomes in the future and to allow even more people to benefit from the misery of those criminals caught in the act.
