GLASGOW Airport is gearing up for one of its busiest periods with tens of thousands of people expected to arrive in the city this summer.

Normally, the airport growth is mostly down to Scots heading out from Glasgow seeking some elusive sunshine abroad.

But this year a number of international and high-profile events will see even more people than usual heading in thanks to the Commonwealth Games, Ryder Cup and some big music events.

The airport growth is also helped by new routes being attracted to keep the list of destinations fresh and growing.

In fact new services have been added despite the detrimental impact Air Passenger Duty and the lack of a successor to the Route Development Fund.

The year-on-year growth shown in the last three years shows not only the success of the airport but the potential it has if only the barriers are removed and some assistance given.

Glasgow Airport will be a crucial operation this summer, ensuring visitors are able to get in and out safely and efficiently and will be the first impression of the city for many.

We have every confidence that the experience will be a pleasant one and that the airport will continue to go from strength to strength.
