GLASGOW has been looking lovely this week in the sun and all over the city individual community projects have added to that shine.

The people behind many of those projects that help make the city cleaner and greener and better for us all were recognised at the 2014 Evening Times Streets Ahead awards.

We have seen people making their own little corner of the city better but making sure others benefit too, like George and Deirdre Cartlege whose garden brightens up their street and grows food to be shared out with friends and neighbours.

Friends of the River Kelvin show their commitment by carrying out their work for almost 25 years making sure the river bank is clean, flowers planted and a gala day for people to enjoy the natural beauty.

And the young are never far away in the awards with Hillhead Primary proving they are good citizens with their litter campaign in the playground and local park.

All our finalists and winners deserve our thanks and with our Streets Ahead partners GHA, ScotRail, Clean Glasgow, City Charitable Trust Glasgow City Council and Scottish Fire and Rescue we are proud to honour them all.

Keep up the good work, please.
