GLASGOW is not called The Dear Green Place for nothing and it has the awards to prove it.

The parks are all around the city and are wonderful spaces for people to enjoy that any city would be proud of.

The parks which have the Keep Scotland Beautiful green flags deserve their status and it takes effort to maintain them and keep them clean.

The parks are not just home to open green spaces often in the middle of densely populated housing areas, but important facilities as well.

Glasgow Green has the People's Palace, Queens Park the Glasshouse and Pollok Park has the Burrell, to name only a few.

It is also up to the people of the city to ensure these parks remain clean and tidy, free of litter and dog fouling.

In this recent warm weather the parks are busier than usual and thousands more visitors are having the opportunity to see the city at its best.

The investment in the parks must be maintained even in tough times because they are an asset Glasgow is fortunate to have and which many others would like.

Enjoy the parks, use them and cherish them and maybe we can have the Green Flags flying in all of our parks.
