In 1967 he played the station's first song, Flowers in the Rain by The Move.
2 John Peel: Known for playing an eclectic mix of music and introducing listeners to new singers and bands.
3 Ed Stewart: Stewpot was a popular DJ in the 60s and 70s and he also presented Crackerjack on TV.
4 Jimmy Young: Had a string of hits in the 1950s and presented Radio 1's mid-morning show.
5 Kenny Everett: Zany character who enjoyed fame with his TV show in the 80s.
6 Simon Dee: Ex Radio Caroline presenter famous for his carchphrase "It's Siiiiimon Dee".
7 Terry Wogan: Now a national treasure, Wogan presented the Late Night Extra show.
8 Emperor Rosko: Real name Mike Pasternak, he was known for a fast-paced presenting style.
9 Pete Murray: A Top of the Tops regular, he was a suave-looking gent.
10 Bob Holness: He started on the BBC Light Service before going to Radio 1 and hosted TV's Blockbusters.
