GLASGOW promised to host the best Commonwealth Games ever and that is what the city delivered.

From the Opening Ceremony through ten days of action and finally at last night's Closing Ceremony, the city pulled out all the stops to put on a show to impress the world.

The Games produced drama in the pool, on the track and on the lawn at Kelvingrove. The velodrome saw the arrival of new heroes as did other venues where we cheered new national heroes in gymnastics, judo, shooting, badminton and boxing.

And the integration of para-sports proved inspirational for athletes and spectators alike.

It's been 11 days unforgettable days for Glasgow where we proved we can put on a major international event to match any city in the world.

And. while the athletes provided the highlights, it was Glasgow itself which was the star of the Games.

Our city has never looked better as it hosted the Friendly Games. And everyone deserves credit from the organisers, to the emergency services who kept us safe, from the volunteers, to every citizen who welcomed visitors with such warmth.

Perhaps the greatest legacy the Games will leave is the sense of pride every Glaswegian should feel this morning for the role they played and in the city they call home.
