SPOILER ALERT: I won't apologise for any spoilers that may follow because first of all the Game of Thrones Season 5 finale has been out for more than a week now so you've had your chance and if you're not watching GoT then...you know nothing...and you should probably jump on the bandwagon.

Anyway...since university broke up for the summer in early May I have done very little other than spend six or seven days a week slugging it out at Asda. So when I say time off, I do still have the odd shifts left but I'm already in holiday mode so I consider myself off already.

Time off to do the things I enjoy in summer should be met with anticipation and excitement - all of which I had until I watched last week's Game of Thrones season finale. Talk about a killjoy if there ever was one.

I must admit I rarely followed Game of Thrones in its early days; in fact it wasn't until early last year when a former flatmate of mine insisted that I watch the first three seasons that I actually got into the show at all. Prior to that it had not really appealed to me.

But oh how that has changed since then. And last Sunday's episode ruined everything; my mood, the show, social media and possibly my life (okay, maybe that's a little over dramatic).

Game of Thrones is a show with an endless and ever growing cast so killing off characters comes naturally to it and us, the audience, are just meant to deal with this and move on. But this time it was different. In the previous four seasons of the show episode nine has always been billed as the one to shock and surprise yet this time round it was episode ten, the final one, that had most impact.

From early on Jon Snow, a man of the Nightswatch, has been a fan's favourite and in more recent episodes we have watched him grow as both a man and a leader. He was adored by viewers yet loathed by his fellow watchmen. A fact that spelled disaster for all.

Sadly due to Twitter's most recent Android update that shows what's trending as you search the site I spoiled the ending before I even got round to watching it for myself.

That didn't matter though as I sat in my flat alone watching the final episode and bracing myself for the inevitable ending. As Jon Snow was led to what was to be his death I yelled at the TV in attempt to stop him from falling for the trap but it wasn't enough. There was nothing I could do as I sat there helplessly fighting back the tears with an occasional groan watching Jon face stabbing after stabbing from his own men. It was just too much.

So thank you to George R.R. Martin and the GoT TV series creators for ruining the beginning of my time off. Much appreciated.
