ANY modern city with a growing economy needs to have a good supply of top class office space.

Glasgow city centre is compact, and to attract new businesses available land needs to be used to its full potential.

The Broadway Two development will provide the city with an asset that can be used to bring more jobs for Glasgow’s people.

The office block will fill in a gap left when STV moved to Pacific Quay and complement the Broadway One block occupied by Tesco Bank.

The investment by developers is a sign of high confidence in Glasgow’s ability to attract more firms, and in the workforce of the city to meet the needs of business.

It will change the skyline, in the north of the city centre but at ten storeys high is not too big to be a dominant presence.

Glasgow has had many vacant sites where developments, whether for department stores, hotels or office blocks, have stalled.

Work is under way in some cases, plans being developed in others, and the city’s economy can look forward to a prosperous future.

What must be ensured is that those currently out of the jobs market are helped to improve their skills and employability to put them in the running for the opportunities these development bring.

If the city is to benefit from new investment then those most in need must be able to take advantage of it.
