Chris McQuade is studying journalism and broadcasting at Glasgow Clyde College. Not your average student, he is Glaswegian to the core.

Here is the latest blog by our student graduates.

So guess what, my baby twins are now six months old.

More than that, baby Lucy has even started talking.

Whilst I was sitting in the Evening Times, stressing over the day’s news stories, my wife sent me a voice memo and I thought ‘oh-oh what’s wrong now’.

Has someone been sick all over the new carpet? Are they so unwell she’s had to rush them to the doctors? Is she so tired from being up all night that I need to go home from work before she collapses?

Wrong, wrong, wrong!

Being a student with four kids is definitely not easy, sleepless nights are the norm.

Finding time to study, work and look after the kids (in no particular order) mean that there isn’t much time for Jelly Baby on a Thursday night.  No, ‘student night’ on Sauchiehall Street is off the menu for the time being-except for the occasional foray.

But it’s these magical moments that make all the hard work worthwhile-the first time you hear your baby say: “Da, da.”

So unexpected, she’s still very young to be talking, and although it’s a murmur, she pronounces it as clear as day.

Little known to me, my wife had been trying to train her for father’s day. She may be a little late but I think I can forgive her on this occasion.

Not wanting to be outdone- baby Jo decides that sitting up on her own is not getting her enough attention(thanks to her talking sister) so she starts crawling.

So Lucy’s screaming Da,da and Jo’s rolling around the floor all the while my wife’s running around shouting at all of us to clear up our mess and I’m telling them all to be quiet because I’m trying to study my shorthand-the neighbours must be so glad we moved in!

There is a ‘Brucie’ bonus to all this mayhem.

It means I have to be super organised these days, and the mayhem has created a monster that needs everything done at a certain time.

This can only help my studies and the HND I’m looking to gain this coming term can only be helped by family life-frenzied as it may be.

Roll on August and my final year as a student-well hopefully.
