I’m up in that loft again, hunting for an 80s costume for Tommy and I. We’re going to an 80s Party on Saturday in Fort William. It’s to raise funds for a truly inspiring woman called Lindsay Jarrett, a friend of ours who suffers from a lung disease called Alpha 1.

Many of Lindsay’s family and friends are walking the West Highland Way and finishing their four day hike on Saturday afternoon at an anti-austerity rally which has been organised in Fort William’s main square. They and us will then join many others at the fundraiser which will be an 80s Disco night.

I told Lindsay that Tommy and I would just raid the loft for some of our old gear. In truth, Tommy’s still wears some of that gear!

‘March’ that hangover away!

Last Friday I was at the Merchant City Festival with my two school pals Davie and Joe. We had a wee wander around the various stalls and visited Tontine Lane, a normally disused dirty auld lane just off the Trongate, which for 10 days, transforms itself into a ‘trendy’ lane with a ‘pop-up’ Belgian beer bar which sells oysters from polystyrene boxes.

We had a great day but as usual we ripped the backside out of it again by drinking too much and not calling it a day when we should have.

I had told Tommy I would call him to pick me up around 9pm. It was around midnight when he bundled me into the car, taking full delight in reminding me that we were attending a very long march through the city centre the following morning...Killjoy!

The next morning, with a heid like a burst couch, I dragged myself to Kelvingrove Park to join thousands of others in an Independence march to Glasgow Green.

To be honest I didn’t think I’d make it but I was bloody determined. Tommy seemed to be delighting in my self-inflicted pain (self-righteous tea-total pain in the a**e that he is).

Fortunately it turned out to be very medicinal as the weather was kind to us marchers, the atmosphere was uplifting and the fresh air cleared my hangover. It was great to see so many still committed to Scotland’s freedom, especially the youngsters.

Laughter on Thursday

On a lighter note I am looking forward to a laid back night of fun and laughter on Thursday in Sauchiehall street's Bar Buddha. There will be six talented comedians performing at the Hope Over Fear fundraising night and having listened to Pat Rolink before I know we will be in for a treat. Pat is from Airdrie and his repertoire will have everyone bent double with laughter. I’m sure the other comedians will be just as funny. Why not come along?  More information here
