It's my lot in life to be surrounded by beautiful women. What a travesty!

I was down at Ayr Racecourse this week to take part in the QTS Ladies Day and was flanked by the top 10 finalists in the Miss Scotland 2015 competition. As if that wasn't glam enough, the lovely Jennifer Reoch from the Riverside Show on STV Glasgow was hosting. Jennifer and I have worked together a few times now and she is a pure joy.

I had the honour of meandering around the racecourse scouring for well dressed ladies to take part in a catwalk show that sees the winner strut off with a trip to New York and £1,000. I was sorely tempted to pinch a wee fascinator and work the runway myself! These lassies get aw the luck.

However, the ladies had no cause to quake in their kitten heels, yours truly was part of the judging panel alongside astrologer Frank Pilkington, Alan from QTS, super stylist Janis-Sue Smith and the lovely Luke from Mumm champagne who were sponsors of the event. Very handy I'm pleased to say that Luke was very generous with the fizz!

It's always a great event and so good to see everyone turn up in their finery. The atmosphere is brilliant and win, lose or draw, you go home having had a cracking day out. Thanks to Lindsey Smith and all of the amazing team at Ayr Racecourse for having us once again.

After the races I swapped my snazzy suit for my wellies and bolted to Mugdock Country Park for the brand new boutique music festival, Mugstock. I didn't arrive until quite late on Saturday night and have to say a massive thanks to the lovely Zeb for sorting out my tickets after the box office had closed.

Mugdock park is perfect for a festival - compact and not too far from Glasgow. There were fairy lights, lanterns and a whole assortment of art installations. It felt like a magical forest...even more so when the cider kicked in!

I got there in time to see my pals, Colonel Mustard & The Dijon 5 kill it on the Yellow Movement stage. If you've not managed to see them live yet, then make it a priority. You haven't lived until you've crossed the road at the Colonel's insistence. Check them out of Facebook for upcoming gigs, I've already got my ticket sorted for their gig at The Drygate on October 16.

The Sunday of Mugstock was a much more relaxed affair with lots of families coming out for the day. It was a strange combination of weekend revellers and the fine locals of Mugdock rocking out side by side at 11:30am! That's the beauty of it I suppose.

Other highlights for me were Have Mercy Las Vegas, The Mickey 9's and SambaYaBamba. Check it out next year folks, it was so much fun and a lot less frenetic than the bigger festivals. Ladies and gay boys; two words. Hot. Dads.

I'm coming to you live from Barcelona this week. River City begins filming for our next series on August 17 so I've taken myself on a lads holiday for one. Shirley Valentine eat yer heart oot!

Travel is one of my favourite things to do, it's so important to get out of your comfort zone and communicate with the locals by sign language and strange noises. I only got Access 3 level in Spanish at school and I'm already turning myself inside out with mortification at how awful I am at it.

I need to go...that's my litre of sangria just arrived. La vida es bella! Life is beautiful! (Thanks google translate.)
