I notice the ‘Peter Pan’ of pop, the one and only Tom Jones, is left asking, 'why, why, why auntie Beeb?’ as his The Voice seat is set to be occupied by a new judge. I like Tom and think he is a massive talent but on the other hand I think his replacement might be quite an interesting choice.

Glasgow Times:

I was never really into Culture Club but after meeting Boy George (George Alan O’Dowd) on a flight between Glasgow and London some 15 years ago when he was up doing a DJ gig in some club in Scotland, I started to follow what he was getting up to.

When he boarded the plane I remember thinking how tall he was. He was so kind, polite charming and completely unaffected by his fame. He was right down to earth and as he was sitting right at the back of the plane he was privy to all the patter between me and my fellow crew members.

As he got up to get off the flight he said he wished he could understand Glaswegian as what we were saying sounded hilarious but he could hardly make out a word of it. I reckon he will be a great addition to the talent show and offer good advice and valid criticism. It may even make me tune in.

Hooked On Game Of Thrones

From one TV show to another of a greater calibre... Game Of Thrones. For years now I’ve heard countless people going on about this show. I didn’t fancy it much, however,  Tommy coaxed a friend into downloading the full set of shows onto his laptop. We connected it to the telly and now we are officially hooked. We love it. We have almost caught up with the fitth series and often find ourselves of an evening watching two and three episodes at a time.

It is just a marvellous show with fantastic characters expertly brought to life by well cast actors. Sure there is lots of sex, gore and violence unsuitable for under 18s but the mixture of gritty realism and far-fetched fantasy works big time. We just can’t get enough of it. We also love the fact many Scottish actors and new actors have been given the chance to shine. To all of you out there who kept going on about this show I now forgive you.

Tommy Met The US President

While owning up to being off the pace with popular TV shows I may as well confess to another embarrassment. The West Wing first aired in the late 90s but we never got around to watching it. You’d have thought we would have been ‘into it’ considering it is about the political world. For some reason we didn’t. Anyway we are now. We’ve got the box set!

Over the last few weeks, we have been tuning in regularly and now understand what all the fuss was about. Sure it’s fictional and soft soaps America’s role in the world but I like a lot of the characters in it especially Martin Sheen who plays The President.

There is one drawback however, and that is Tommy constantly bumming and blowing about how he actually met Martin Sheen whilst on a football trip to Croatia in 2001. He and his old mucker, actor Tony Roper, were casually strolling through the old town of Dubrovnik when they spotted Mr Sheen walking in their direction. Bold as brass Tony approached him and extended a hand of friendship. Tommy jumped in as well to compliment the bewildered American actor on his real life opposition to nuclear weapons. According to Tommy and Tony, Mr Sheen was happy to stand and chat and informed them he was there working on a film. No doubt Martin probably wished his ‘West Wing’ security entourage had been on hand to usher these two gallus Glesga boys aside.
