I'm back from holiday and ready to give you all the latest Glasgow music news!

Just before I went away I went to see Paolo Nutini at Bellahouston Park. The weather held out, more or less, for an amazing performance by Grace Jones and Paolo's special rendition of Stand By Me along with  a selection of songs from each of his albums. What a great night!

The Scottish Alternative Music Awards (SAMAs) have announced the shortlisted acts for this years' award.

Catholic Action, Man Of Moon, Lockah, Errors, Colonel Mustard & The Dijon 5, Neon Waltz and 2015 SAY Award winner Kathryn Joseph are amongst the nominees.

The SAMAs were established to shine a light on new and emerging talent in Scotland and the winners of this years' awards will be announced at a ceremony at The Garage in Glasgow on Thursday, October 8.

Award founder Richy Muirhead said: "The shortlist is extremely strong this year, with nominees from every corner of Scotland. There is a huge surge in nominations for new bands which goes to show that Scotland is forever churning out new and exciting talent. I think this year’s main event will be one not to miss – it’s our sixth birthday, so we’ve got a few surprises and crowd-pleasers up our sleeves. Stay tuned.”

Tickets for The SAMAs are on sale now.

This Saturday, October 3 Tenement Trail is taking over the city with thirty bands playing in six different venues over twelve hours.

Broadcast, Nice N Sleazy, ABC 2, Flat 0/1, King Tut's and The Art School will play host to some of the city's best bands.

I recommend checking out Declan Welsh (3:15pm Nice N Sleazy) and you could do worse than hanging around the Art School for Pronto Mama, Hole Esque, Neon Waltz and the fantastic White (9:15pm). If you can manage to be in three places at once...Young Aviators (9:15pm Flat 0/1) or Atom Tree (9:30pm King Tuts) are ones to watch too. Tickets are on sale now.

As you'll know if you're a regular reader of my column I help run the SAY (Scottish Album of the Year) Award. I'm really excited about the SAY Award Showcase at the Spree Festival in Paisley on October 15.

2015 winner Kathryn Joseph will be performing along with shortlisted artists PAWS and Happy Meals in the beautiful spiegeltent in Paisley city centre. The Spree Festival runs between the October 9 and 17, and is packed with fantastic gigs including Idlewild who will be joined by the RSNO for a unique performance in the Paisley Abbey. If you've been watching Singing In The Rainforest on the Watch channel you'll know the series is all about taking musicians from the UK to live with remote tribes in different areas of the world and finding out what kind of music they can make together. The final episode is on Monday, October 12 and I'm really happy to say it's with Glasvegas! A few weeks ago the band and friends and family travelled through to Edinburgh to see the show being premiered at The Edinburgh Film House as part of the television festival. All I can say is I can't encourage you enough to tune in to the show a week on Monday. Funny, touching and completely mental, it's a very different type of music program and I know you'll enjoy it!
