IT SEEMS the Olympics have barely been here two minutes and we’re already gearing up for the closing ceremony on Sunday at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janerio.

Well, technically it will be Monday for us, because of the time difference, but the Games have just flown by.

As I write this column, Team GB has won an impressive 54 medals, 20 gold, 21 silver and 13 bronze, which includes gold for Andy Murray in tennis and golds for Jason Kenny, Callum Skinner and Laura Trott in cycling.

It seems like it’s been another fantastic Olympics and Tokyo certainly has a lot to live up to when they are passed the baton, so to speak, to host the next Olympics in four years in 2020.

I haven’t really seen that much of the Games to be honest, as I’ve been in full Edinburgh Festival mode over the last few weeks.

Although I did compete in my own mini Olympics of sorts on Sunday night, as I had five minutes to run from my venue in St Andrew Square Gardens to the gorgeous Le Monde Hotel on George Street, where I was headlining the Cabaret Show directly after my show.

Now, not being in tip-top physical condition at the moment (to say the least), I was expecting nothing less than a gold medal when I arrived at top speed through the doors of Le Monde 47 seconds ahead of schedule, dripping in sweat and panting like a lunatic.

I was also hoping for an oxygen tank and a lie down, but you can’t have it all, I suppose!

YES, the Olympics have flown by, but so has the Edinburgh Festival.

I counted and, after tonight’s show, I’ve only eight performances of Michelle McManus: Pop Goes The Idol left of 2016.

We’ve had a sell out run so far, which I’m still pinching myself at the thought of, and can’t thank everyone enough who has bought a ticket for all their support.

To top it all off, the legendary Steve Wright has asked me to be a guest on his Radio 2 show this afternoon.

I’m a huge fan and I’m completely honoured, as he’s only broadcasting live from Edinburgh for one day, that I’ve been chosen as a guest.

I’ve been lucky enough to have been interviewed by Steve a few times before in my career, and I’ve always had such good fun on the show.

I haven’t really had time this year to see a lot of other shows, as I’ve been commuting daily from Glasgow and, what with the M8 being such a joy to travel on these days, by the time I get through to the capital I’m exasperated and in dire need of a bottle of wine, which, sadly, I can’t have.

But I would like to take the time to recommend one or two shows to you if you’re planning on visiting the fringe during this last weekend and looking for some inspiration.

There are two cabaret shows on showcasing some of the best talent at this year’s festival. The first is Vive Le Variete at 7pm at the Stand in the Square and the 9pm Cabaret in Le Monde on George Street.

Both are hosted by the extremely talented Bruce Devlin and are not to be missed. There is also Funny for a Grrrl on at 4.20pm every day, again at Stand in the Square, which brings together the funniest women in comedy right now, including the fabulous Mary Bourke, Kiri Pritchard-McLean and Jayde Adams.

Jayde also has her own show every night at the Voodoo Rooms at 10.30pm which is receiving rave reviews.

It’s been another bonanza year at the Edinburgh Festival and, hey, I’ve even managed to slip out of my trusty wellies and into some normal footwear for a couple of days when the rain left us alone.

Congrats to all of the performers this year and here’s to a fantastic last week at the Fringe.
