• Who are you?

Grant Ruxton and Nick Auckland - friends and entrepreneurs who met doing business in Glasgow and came up with an idea for new way to search for property.

• What does your business do?

We've created an app designed to quickly connect people who have properties to rent, with people searching for rental properties. Rather than relying on outdated websites and 'bricks and mortar' letting agents, Swipe Move lets landlords and tenants connect efficiently and with a fun 'swipe right for yes and left for no' interface. The app lets users save and share the properties they like and contact the landlords directly, speeding up the rental process for everyone. We already have 35,000 properties listed across the UK.

• Where are you based?

We are based at Think Tank Glasgow on Bath Street within Glasgow City Centre. We’ve been there since inception and have been really pleased with the support and flexibility they have provided. We are happy to keep the business in Scotland and there is certainly no shortage of talent to enable us to take the app to the next level.

• How did you get started?

Like all good ideas, it started over a beer. Rather than continue to talk about it in the pub for the next year, we pooled our resources, employed our first developer and got started on version 1 of the app.

• What is your background?

The team behind Swipe Move have backgrounds in property, e-commerce, digital marketing and app development. This was obviously a good mix for creating a property app and has really helped in bringing a lot of different areas of expertise to the project.

• What is your top tip?

Persevere if you have a good idea, and don’t be afraid to stick to your guns.

• How long has your business been running?

Just under a year, and most of this time has been spent developing the app, which is now starting to become established. The next step is to grow the number of users on the app and create wider exposure.

• What was your biggest mistake/or what would you do differently?

Not starting sooner!

• Where do you plan your business to be in five years time?

World domination….not really, but a bigger share of the lettings market would be nice. We have currently focused on the lettings market as this is more approachable for users but the same principle can be rolled out to sales once we have grown our team. Alternative markets are also potentially on the horizon once we have managed to grow our presence in the UK.
