What a weekend this is for Scotland. It's got everyone talking and sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for all the fun and games to commence. Yes you know what I'm talking about, everybody's favourite pensioners return to our screens tonight in Still Game and Scotland play Lithuania at Hampden Park on Saturday night in their quest to qualify for the World Cup in Russia 2018.

Let's start with Still Game, possibly the greatest Scottish comedy of all time and I'm not just saying that because I guest starred in series six. Before you ask I absolutely tell everybody and their granny about it at every opportunity I get.

After an nine year absence we rejoin the Craiglang gang to catch up on all the goings on and mischief our band of golden oldies get up to on a daily basis.

This series won't just be watched by a Scottish audience but instead it will be beamed out across the entire UK tonight at 9.30pm on BBC 1. When the news broke earlier this year that Jack and Victor would indeed be dusting off the old pipe and bunnet, the nation rejoiced as it had been such a long time coming.

Now that it's finally here I'm feeling so nervous, a bit like a kid on Christmas Eve infact as I really want and need the new series to live up to the hype. Thankfully I don't think I've anything to fear though as a few friends of mine were lucky enough to watch the advance screening of tonight's episode. They said it was better than they ever could have imagined with all our favourite characters back to their very best not to mention the fancy new makeover the show's titles and iconic theme tune get courtesy of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Now that's when you know you've made it.

After the excitement and anticipation of Still Game, we’ve got Scotland's World Cup Qualifier roller coaster to ride less than 24 hours later. Now I don't know about you but I'm definitely one of those people who is absolutely ready and praying for our national team to qualify for any sort of major tournament.

After spending almost 20 years supporting a random country I've picked out of a sweepstake at work or with friends because Scotland once again didn't make the cut, is just depressing and surely now the time has come for Scotland supporters to head off with their heads held high to the 2018 World Cup.

Now I know it's a tough group but you've got to admit we’ve started well against Malta with a 5-1 victory under our belts and with all the drama surrounding the England team and their manager (what was big Sam thinking?) that might just work in our favour fingers crossed.

I really like Gordon Strachan and I feel if any Scotland Manager can do it he can, but if we can only get something out if this game on Saturday it's another big step towards qualification. One thing is for sure though, no matter what the score the atmosphere will be fantastic thanks to the Tartan Army. They are loved and adored wherever they go because let's be honest who doesn't love the sight of a thousand ‘See You Jimmy Hats’ cheering on their team from the stands. Yes, it's surely a big weekend for Scotland both on TV and in sport. Let's hope we all wake up on Sunday morning still laughing from Still Game on Friday night and crying only tears of joy after the football on Saturday night. Either that or we’ll be sending Jack and Victor into that Scotland team dressing room to give them a post match team talk Craiglang style.

I'm delighted to be supporting MP Tommy Sheppard this Sunday at The Stand in Glasgow for his afternoon fundraiser. Tommy is standing for Depute Leader of the SNP and some of the country's top comedians are taking to the stage to perform and support his campaign including Frankie Boyle, Susie McCabe and Keir McAllister. I'll be singing a few numbers during the show which has now completely sold out but if you’d like more information about Tommy and the SNP Deputy Leader race just log onto http://tommysheppardmp.scot
