Dangerous state

REGARDING the Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson building which has been deemed unsafe.

IT is really shocking that the owner of this building has allowed it to get into such a dangerous state.

He must be forced to have the roof rebuilt as soon as to make it wind and water tight, and renew all the windows too, and have the internal floors rebuilt.

Also rewired as soon as. We don’t want to see this building having to be demolished.

Good thing

THE Evening Times must be congratulated for helping raise awareness about dementia, which we are told will affect one in three of us in the future.

It is surely one of the cruellest diseases and anything which can help families can only be a good thing.

Roadwork delays

I REMEMBER when the M74 roadworks were just starting and I was driving out that way and the signs up said “Roadworks till March 2017”.

Needless to say these signs have been taken down as these works will be on till virtually July.

No warning

I WAS interested to read about the Glasgow business owner who is fighting for compensation because he says that engineering works on Victoria Road have cost him customers.

Good and about time.

I applaud this man. The way the roads are closed wily nily without much warning especially at weekends and in particular in and around our motorway network is a complete joke.

We should all get compensated with a road tax rebate for the mass inconvenience.

Best option

TRUTH be told it wasn’t actually absolutely necessary for Victoria Road to be closed.

There was a discussion about a partial closure to maintain traffic flow but Glasgow City Council and Scottish Water agreed that the ‘best option’ was to close the road.

Many people, our community council included, pointed out the problems this would cause for traders in Victoria Road who had already suffered during a previous long closure.

It is heartbreaking to see small businesses damaged in this way. Perhaps removing the bus gates at Devon St and Butterbiggins Road would allow Victoria Road to be more vibrant in the longer term.
