DO food colours cause hyperactivity in children?

Hyperactivity is when a child is overactive, can't concentrate and acts on sudden impulses without thinking about alternatives.

Experts think hyperactivity affects 2-5% of children in the UK. There's no single test for diagnosing it.

It's important to remember that hyperactivity is also associated with factors other than additives, including premature birth, genetics and upbringing.

If your child shows signs of hyperactivity or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), eliminating some colours from their diet might have beneficial effects on their behaviour.

Such colour agents are used in a number of foods, including soft drinks, sweets, cakes and ice cream. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has published a list of manufacturers with food ranges free from the colours that may cause issues,: www.food.gov.uk

MY boyfriend has smelly feet and it is ruining our love life. What can he do to get rid of the smell?

Medically known as bromodosis, stinky feet are a common year-round problem.

The main cause is sweaty feet combined with wearing the same shoes every day.

You're also more likely to have foot perspiration if you're on your feet all day, if you're under a lot of stress or if you have a medical condition called hyperhidrosis, which makes you sweat more than usual.

Fungal infections, such as athlete's foot, can also lead to bad foot odour.

The good news is that there's a simple, quick, sure-fire solution to smelly feet. Wash your feet with an anti-bacterial soap. Leave on the soap for a couple of minutes, then wash it off.

Keeping feet fresh and sweet smelling is all down to good personal hygiene and changing your shoes regularly.

Never wear the same pair of shoes two days in a row.

Instead, wear different shoes on successive days so they have at least 24 hours to dry out.

Men should make sure they have two pairs of trainers so that they don't have to wear the same pair for two or more consecutive days, wash and dry your feet every day and change your socks, ideally wool or cotton, not nylon at least once a day, keep your toenails short and clean and remove any hard skin with a foot file.

Smelly feet are a harmless problem that generally clears up.

Sometimes, however, it can be a sign of a medical condition. See your GP if simple measures to reduce your foot odour don't help.

WHAT is Tennis Elbow?

Tennis elbow is a condition that results in pain around the outside of the elbow. It often occurs after strenuous overuse of the muscles and tendons of the forearm, near the elbow joint.

It can be caused by number of physical activities as well as playing tennis. Pain can also occur on the inner side of the elbow, which is known as golfer's elbow.

When a person gets tennis elbow, one or more of the tendons in their elbow becomes painful.

Twisting movements, such as turning a door handle or opening a jar lid, are particularly painful. In around three quarters of cases of tennis elbow, the dominant hand (the one that is used the most) is affected.

Tennis elbow is a self-limiting condition. This means that in most cases the symptoms eventually improve and clear up without treatment.

Anti-inflammatory painkillers can often reduce mild pain that is caused by tennis elbow. However, if your pain is severe or prolonged, a corticosteroid injection may be recommended by your GP.

Most cases of tennis elbow last between six months and two years. However, in around 9 out of 10 cases, a full recovery is made within one year.
