I KNOW I’m not the only one who got emotional about the death of Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchinson this week. Scott’s tragic passing has affected most of us in some way, whether we knew him or not.

I was privileged to have met Scott at events such as The Nordoff Robbins Tartan Clef Awards and T In The Park – where he was a photo runner and latterly a performer – over the years.

Like most who heard he went missing and saw his last messages on Twitter, I was praying for the best until it was confirmed his body had been found. I cried at the news.

Scott was an articulate and intelligent musician who reached deeply with his lyrics. Ironically, many are discovering his art only now.

He admitted to me in one of his interviews that he was very much the Frightened Rabbit behind the band’s name.

He told me: “I was just really shy, which was a weird thing for a guy who is a singer in a band to have. I feel more comfortable on stage performing to however many hundreds or thousands of people than I do in a conversation at a party. Take me to a party full of strangers and I’ll just clam up and become that Frightened Rabbit again.”

He wore his heart on his sleeve and I hope that during Mental Health Awareness week we can be moved to try to help others who do desperately need to be understood.
