Remember way back in the beginning when I first wrote about how my summer was going to be spent getting fit and buff? Yeah, about that. The thing is I want to, but my social life is doing everything in its power to steer me away from it, and down a dark path of alcohol and unrefined carbohydrates. Lethal combination.

In an attempt at staying in the fit club I've signed up for the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run Half Marathon 2015 in Glasgow. If you're laughing at this then rest assured, I have done two already. I really do know what I'm in for. Running for two hours non stop. Wooooo.

My fellow River City castmate Jordan Young, who plays Alex McAlister, is also running it. We've agreed to raise money for BBC's Children in Need as a reason to not back out (mainly me) Jordan is fast. Dead, dead fast.

We basically started running properly round about the same time as one another a few years back when I was training for my first half, but Forrest Young has kept it up. I'm talking 6:44min miles - to all non runners, think Speedy Gonzalez.

Jordan and I are having some healthy banter via text and social media, albeit, right now he is jibing me for being out on the lash most nights as he clocks up 9, 10, 11 mile runs. Totes hilare. As I have told him, I am a middle child, my need to be up front and centre in things will have me pounding the mean streets in no time and if that fails, then the sheer fear of it will.

So, in light of my striving to be athlete of the year, of course I get invited along to the new pop up watering hole in the Merchant City. Heverlee at Tontine has taken over the unassuming loading bay in Tontine Lane - I've walked past it a thousand times and now its been transformed into a cool Belgian cafe bar.

I love Glasgow for throwing open these new ventures; it is amazing. There's street art, space for live music and DJ's and Tontine Lane is also home to Douglas Gordon's Turner Prize winning neon sign "Empire".

It is a total collision of old Glasgow meeting new and strikes the balance perfectly. The beer isn't too shabby either. I'm not the best when drinking beer, it knocks me loopy! Think 16-year-old lassie necking a thimble of bevvy at her first school disco crossed with Bambi trying to walk and that should give you a pretty strong visual. Heverlee will be relieved to hear that not only did I remain upright after a fair few, I actually could still maintain a conversation.

Glasgow Times:

My sister Gillian and I went along and bumped into David Farrell from the Riverside Show on STV Glasgow and Paul Docherty. We were all huddled inside to escape the torrential rain (I won't even go there this week!) It's got such a good atmosphere, I bumped into so many old faces and felt bang on trend with the hipster weans. Witte beer was by far my favourite; it was like a shandy minus the lemonade. Unless my wee sister tipped the barman to water mine down.

Heverlee at Tontine is only open for 16 days, so get along pronto! That means you, Jordan Young. 6 minute miles. He's no right that boy!

Glasgow Times:

I went along to the press night for Love Me Tender at the Edinburgh Playhouse this week. My mum was off for the Glasgow Fair, so I took the auld broad out for a birl to the nations capital as my date. We were chummed along by Pamela Byrne, she played Robbie's best pal and sidekick Hayley in River City.

The show was pure cheese, but feel good cheese. Toes were tapping and we all left with beaming grins at the end. Aye, the story is stitched around a load of Elvis songs, but I didn't care!

It was worth the journey alone to hear Mica Paris singing Falling in Love with You. That woman is a force of nature. Total goosebumps. What a lovely way to spend an evening and it was great to hang out with two of my favourite girls. Thank you to Sarah and the team at The Playhouse for a wonderful night as always.

I caught up with my best gal pal, Judy Murray this week. The Dame as I call her is fresh from Wimbledon, looking lovely and tanned. I'm raging. We went along to the Oran Mor to catch our friend Paul James Corrigan in the lunchtime play. I love hanging out with Judy, we always have a right good giggle and treat ourselves to plenty of fizz. She sure knows the way to this boys heart!
