NOW, you know you've hit the big time when the word on the street is that there's going to be a movie made of your life in Hollywood right? No, dear reader, not my life story, although what a tale that would be, but the story charting the rise of unlikely Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle.

It begins with her appearance at that now infamous Britain's Got Talent audition back in 2009 which has been viewed more than 130 million times online and takes us to the present day where she is known around the globe and has sold more than 19 million albums worldwide.

Her story is the stuff of fairy tales and it's easy to see why Hollywood would want to snap it up with both hands because it deals with someone who was seen as an underdog, who perhaps hadn't been taken very seriously in her life up until that point and how she captured the hearts of people from all corners of the earth and brought joy to many more with her voice.

Susan's life has already transferred onto the stage with the fabulous Elaine C Smith playing the lovely lady in I dreamed a Dream which was a hugely successful musical of Susan's life which tour the UK a few years ago.

I had the pleasure interviewing Susan a number of times and I performed alongside her when we both sung for Pope Benedict XVI at Bellahouston Park in Glasgow when he visited Scotland in 2010.

I remember how nervous we were as it was such a big deal for us both on so many levels. There were 80,000 people there on the day with a further estimated 100 million global audience watching at home not to mention actually meeting the Holy Father himself afterwards so it was something neither of us would forget in a hurry. What is really impressive about this whole movie chat though is that multi-award winning actress Meryl Streep is rumoured to be playing Susan in the film.

I mean it simply doesn't get much better than that and anyone who saw Meryl take on the role of Margaret Thatcher in the 2011 movie The Iron Lady, which won her a third academy award, will know what this woman is capable of although if she can get the accent spot on and the trade mark wiggle right I'll be blown away. I was chatting about this to my friends only yesterday and we all agreed how fantastic the whole idea was and we even played the game of choosing a Hollywood A lister to play each of us in the story of our lives which of course I opted for Angelina Jolie for obvious reasons.

I've actually been lucky enough to have two lovely Scottish comedians portray me on screen over the past 12 years.

First up was star of Scot Squad and River City Gayle Telfer Stevens back in 2003 when she played me in a series of hilarious sketches for Harry Hills TV Burps in which I was having a secret love affair with Simon Cowell, God just think how rich I'd be now if that had really happened.

A few years later the wonderful Tom Urie donned a black dress and wig to play me in one of the funniest clips I've ever seen for the Karen Dunbar show when they were the Almost Angelic duo doing a Scottish legends tribute act. Karen played Lulu, Sharleen Spiteri to name a few then it cut to a shot of Tom who actually looked better than I did at that time. I keep forgetting to ask him where he got the dress from. Let's hope Susan Boyle the movie does happen and her success continues to grow. It's great to see someone from Scotland do so well and if Meryl isn't available to do it im sure there will be another million actresses queuing up for the part because if a role ever had Oscar written all over it surely it must be this.

That's my first week at the Edinburgh Festival done and dusted with only three weeks still to go I must learn to pace myself better and run like the wind past that bar in St Andrews a Square and straight home to bed after the show.
