MY Facebook and Twitter timelines are going bonkers today for the much anticipated release of the new Star Wars movie.

Now it's no secret I'm a huge fan of the franchise having grown up with the movies and dressing up as Princess Leia at every possible opportunity (I'd like to clarify though that it is always the white robe with doughnut hair combo and not, I repeat not, the gold bikini from Return of the Jedi) and I even have a four foot poster from the original 1977 movie framed and hanging on my bathroom wall so it's safe to say I'm as happy as Larry that the movie has finally arrived in cinemas across the UK.

I'm avoiding the internet like the plague though, for the next few days and it does help that I'm currently residing in Mermaids Lagoon in Neverland as Mimi the Magical Mermaid but just in case no spoilers please.

I’m also extremely delighted to announce this week that I'll be debuting my brand new one woman show, Michelle McManus: Pop Goes The Idol at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival next year on Tuesday March 22 2016 at the beautiful Citizens Theatre.

It's the 3rd instalment in my one woman show series in which I take a humourous look at my life and career through the eyes of my alter ego who thinks she's an international mega star while all the while standing on stage wearing a £2.99 feathered headband off ‘The Ebay’.

As always I pay tribute to my idol Dorothy Paul in this show as she has been my biggest inspiration since I first saw her many years ago at The Pavilion Theatre in Glasgow and I will be accompanied by my dear friend Tommy Chambers from Soundsational Choir who will also be my Musical Director.

Tommy was instrumental, if you pardon the pun, to my five star review show at The Kings Theatre back in March and pulled together a truly amazing group of musicians and of course the stunning choir who elevated the show to a different level in the finale.

This brand new instalment in my one woman series would be nothing of course without my extremely talented friend and writing partner Bruce Devlin.

Bruce is Scotland's top comedian and compere and I'm so extremely lucky to have him collaborate on these shows.

I first met Bruce in 2007 when we were both booked as guests on the Fred McAuley show on BBC Radio Scotland which was being hosted by the late great Gerard Kelly that particular day.

I was starring in an upcoming production due to debut at the Edinburgh Festival later that year called Discotivity, a very camp musical take on The Nativity where I played the Virgin Mary while being visited by a very buff Angel Gabriel who was clad only in a tiny pair of gold lamé hot pants and a pair of huge white wings trimmed with battery powered fairy lights, my Catholic parents were so proud as you can imagine.

From the moment we met, Bruce and I became the best of friends and eight years later we are just as close even after I moved in with him for the month of August last year in Edinburgh and he had to put up with my eccentric ways for five weeks, although I think the litres of wine we consumed during that period helped considerably.

It's a very exciting time in my life and with my 12 year anniversary of winning Pop Idol (God I'm old) coming up on Sunday I'm very blessed to still have such a fantastic career starring in the SECC alongside David Hasselhoff and The Krankies, writing this column for the Evening Times and of course writing and starring in my woman woman shows which I get to perform all over the county. I'm hoping everyone will enjoy the new show as it's very much in the same vain as the Musicals and Reloaded shows with comedy and great songs.

Maybe I should include a Princess Leia costume change in this new show and and write comedy words to the Star Wars theme music.

I could title it, “I lost my heart to a long haired loved a long time ago in a Galaxy far far away’. Michelle McManus: Pop Goes The Idol 8pm Tuesday March 22 2016 at The Citizens Theatre. Tickets can be purchased by visiting www.glasgowcomedyfestival.com or by calling 08448737353.
