The January blues have well and truly kicked in. This month is just horrible. We are all on diets and trying to kick-start our fitness. And the combination of both just adds to the misery.

I decided to therefore put the fun into fitness - by taking part in Clubbercise, which is an exercise class like no other.

Glasgow Times:

Picture this: dark room, glow sticks, energetic moves and dance music classics - that is pretty much Clubbercise.

The classes are run in Castlemilk's Jenniburn Centre on a Wednesday by Sharon Gibb, who has been in a fitness instructor for 16 years.

Sharon's welcoming manner and enthusiasm for fitness is what makes this class a hit. Clubbercise is a class for everyone, and personally I think it is brilliant because you are doing the moves in the dark. If you are shy, and don't like 'performing' in public - this is the class for you.

For me, Clubbercise was a break from routine. I am a fan of George Bowie's GBX anthems on a Saturday night on Clyde 1 - and this is the soundtrack to the class. I found myself singing along and raving away. She plays classics like Discoland, Freedom and Real Love.

The glow sticks and a whistle - yes a whistle - just add to the classic 90s rave atmosphere.

Let's face it, we often make exercise a chore. We see it as something which needs to be done so we maintain a healthy body. Clubbercise eradicates that view because it is just so enjoyable.

Sharon, who started teaching the class in October, 2014, explained, "It's aerobics , done in a darkened room full of disco lights - and everyone gets a pair of glow sticks .

"The music is old skool and club classics - or a wee bit of GBX as we say in Glasgow!

"Everyone loves it and people say it doesn't feel like exercise as the tunes are great - and for a lot of people, it brings back some wonderful memories from their younger days.

"I think it's different from other classes as its so much fun and, as of course it's dark - that makes lots of people feel at ease and comfortable coming to a class. All shapes and sizes come, and lots of different fitness levels come too. You can work really hard or take the low impact options - and still have a great time."

Clubbercise is a class I will continue to go to because it puts a smile on my face - and that is rare in exercise.

The class is on every Wednesday at Castlemilk's Jenniburn Centre. The cost is £3 for 30 minutes. Believe me folks, 30 minutes is a tough workout.

You can watch my video to get an idea of what to expect. Yes it is dark but the glow sticks guide you and it is every easy to see what Sharon is doing.

Sharon also does a variety of other classes, and you can find out more by visiting her Facebook page here
