I’ve tried not to mention that b****t Donald Trump in my column. I despair at the coverage he is getting around the world on the media platform and so I really don’t want to give him oxygen but yesterday I had a surreal conversation with a woman who approached me to ask what Tommy and I thought of this particularly obnoxious American.

I put forward my opinion on the multi-billionaire and how he turned our stomachs. I had honestly expected this wee woman to agree with my attitude but it wasn’t to be. She was quick to inform me that “a lot of people agree with his sentiments and just don’t want to admit it out loud.”

I have to admit I was disappointed that a Christian woman would display such support for an outright racist, spiteful and abusive man who is hogging the limelight of American politics. A man who has decided that HE wants to be a politician, and why not? He can afford it! His money can buy ANYTHING...Can’t it?

I explained my disgust for the multi-billionaire’s divisive, dangerous and utterly abhorrent ideas and hoped that perhaps the woman would consider some of my points. She remained unconvinced and it was chilling for me to experience such tolerance for a man of hate and division. Trump should not just be mocked for his stupid and woefully ignorant views he should also be exposed as a danger to anyone who ever finds themselves part of a minority group.

The haunting words of Pastor Martin Niemoller in relation to the rise of the Nazis in Germany are worth paraphrasing in the context of this sorry tale. They came for the trade unionists and I said nothing as I was not a trade unionist. They came for the socialists and I said nothing as I was not a socialist. They came for the disabled and I said nothing as I was not disabled. They came for the Jews and I said nothing as I was not a Jew. By the time they came for me there was no one left to say anything. I hope more and more people speak up and against Trump.

Glasgow Times:

Susan Sarandon is 69. She was attending the US Screen Actors Awards the other night and stole the show on the Red Carpet by wearing a revealing outfit showing off her very ample cleavage. She looked bloody great. She is also a first class actor and very decent person. Nearly all the daily newspapers the following day carried her photo...it must have put the younger ladies’ noses out of joint.

Glasgow Times:

Talking of great bodies. Aidan Turner, he of Poldark fame and naked torsos on our screens, is appealing for us to give up our clothes. He is spear- heading a campaign for the ‘Give up Clothes for Good’ charity which will help beat children’s cancer by encouraging people to bag their unwanted clothes, accessories and homeware, and donate them to any TK Maxx store.

Glasgow Times:

He too appeared in most of the newspapers yesterday, showing off his mighty fine cleavage as well! What a welcome sight for a Monday morning that was.

I survived my ‘Reply fae the lassies’ speech last Saturday. I was lucky enough to receive a great reception and awarded many lovely compliments. We all had a great night. My friend Bev summed up the night when she said that the whole night was special, especially getting dressed up in our evening wear. She said she felt like a princess. The truth was she looked like one as well. The Lourdes Theatre Group put on yet another great evening. Special mention is due to the McLean clan so ably led by father Des and mother Susan. You never let us down.
