What a week it’s been especially in politics. We have a new female Prime Minister, the Labour Party continues to hit the self destruct button without a care in the world, old bonkers Boris Johnson has been made Foreign Secretary and if you think things couldn't get more like an episode of BBC’s The Thick Of It, Jeremy Hunt is somehow still in charge of the NHS. No, dear reader, you aren't dreaming or conjuring up some hideous nightmare, this is our reality I'm afraid.

I could write not one but probably three whole columns on the current state of politics in the UK right now but seriously can anyone actually take another minute of that chat?

I'm politically exhausted at the moment and long for a simpler time when in days gone by it was only the mere sight of wee Miley Cyrus swinging on a wrecking ball in nothing but her birthday suit that would dominate our news feeds.

So, I'm going to talk about something a little more cheerie if that's ok? Let's talk about how fantastic George Square in Glasgow is looking right now as it plays host to The Homeless World Cup which sadly concludes tomorrow.

The whole concept began in 2001 and was the brainchild of founders Mel Young and Harald Schmied who were devoted to finding a global solution to homelessness. Fast forward 15 years later and a total of 64 teams, representing 52 countries, have come together to celebrate and highlight the life changing work of the Homeless World Cup National Partner network. More than 500 players, each with their own story to tell, are on a journey to create a better life for themselves which everyone will agree is just fantastic.

Honestly if you haven't seen it get yourself to George Square pronto before it's all over. It has been converted into an impressive outdoor street football venue for the event. There are three purpose built pitches complete with seating and with almost 100,000 spectators attending over the past weeks, it's safe to say the tournament has been a massive success.

Glasgow has once again come up trumps and done itself proud by hosting a spectacular event. Entry is free every day, and tickets are not required so there's no excuses. It's also the Glasgow Fair weekend so get yourself down to George Square and support this fantastic cause. For more information log onto www.homelessworldcup.org

I am delighted to announce that I'm doing something a little difference this September. I'm going back to signing and performing at the beautiful Milngavie Folk Club on Friday September 2 for the Michelle McManus Acoustic Sessions.

Many years ago I met my dear friend Stephen Caban who also owns CC Music in Glasgow’s West End while I was performing

with the legend that is former international rugby star and Radio Scotland presenter John Beattie in his all star band from the BBC. Through my friendship with Stephen, I met the lovely Tim Black and together they are, in my humble opinion, two of the most talented and gifted musicians in the country right now.

So we decided to get together and perform an evening of acoustic tracks which are a combination of original music that we’ve written together and some classic Country and contemporary music which we love.

I must say that our take on the Queen classic Fat Bottomed Girls is one of my particular favourites for a variety of reasons and I can't wait to perform it live. As I said it's something completely different for me and I'm so excited about getting back to my first love, music. I'd love to see you there for a Friday night knees up of great music and chat. Thanks for all of your lovely comments after my appearance on the Lorraine Kelly show last week. I had such a lovely time and the response has just been overwhelming. I did find it rather baffling though that my pink hair do managed to cause such a fuss in the media afterwards not to mention the lovely comments online.

My personal favourite being the gentleman who compared me to Mrs Slocombe from Are You Being Served which I adored. Dear old Mollie Sugden would have been proud I'm sure. Thank you especially to lovely Taylor Ferguson and his team for not throwing the hair dye out the window in utter despair when I came bounding into the salon two weeks ago and announced I wanted to go pink again to celebrate the three days of summer we get annually up here in Scotland. Pink is definitely the way forward, now we just need the Sun.
