Anyone who knows me will be aware of my teeny tiny, slightly bonkers obsession with the Outlander book series and TV show on Amazon Prime. Yes that's right dear reader, I stand before you loud and proud to declare that my name is is Michelle McManus and I have an Outlander addiction.

It's also fair to say that I've got a touch of the William Wallace about me too as I apply bright blue eyeshadow on my wee eyelids while shouting freedom at the top of my lungs.

I've read all eight books at least three times and I may have developed a small crush on leading man Sam Heughan. He plays our hero Jamie Fraser but let me assure you not in a ‘I'm going to stalk him day and night and buy a huge cardboard cutout of him in his kilt for my bedroom kind of way' just in case Sam’s people are reading this….ahem.

I’ve also had the pleasure of interviewing author Diana Gabaldon not once but twice when she visited Scotland a few years ago when she came to see us at The Hour on STVso you can imagine my utter joy when I was asked to get involved in this year's Scotcon event.

Yes the Clans are coming together in Edinburgh on Saturday and Sunday September 3 and 4 for a weekend in celebration of all things Scottish. Scotcon will be hosting its inaugural celebration by paying homage to our breath-taking country.

A celebration like no other, Scotcon will honour Scotland, its people, its history, culture, values, diversity, innovation and our future.

Scotcon will allow people to reconnect with their heritage, their ancestral Scottish roots or merely to indulge in a passion and interest of Scotland. Scotcon is the first, and only, Comic Con of its kind in Scotland. Dedicated to the hit television show Outlander, the Scotcon team will deliver an astounding and gargantuan clan gathering here in Scotland. The event will be held at the Royal Highland Center in Ingliston, Edinburgh and will welcome fans from every corner of the globe.

It will be a weekend not to be missed for sure with so much happening from weaponry displays, ancient and traditional Highland Games, and Highland dance competitions. There will also be Scotland's sports village, Scottish food and beverages, bespoke Scottish arts and crafts, historical and Outlander site tours, DNA and genealogy analysis and regression and holistic therapies.

I'm especially delighted to announce that I will be head judge at the Bairns Gein’ It Laldy talent competition, just think of Simon Cowell in a kilt, wig, high heels and carrying a bit of holiday weight if you will. The talent show will take place over the course of both afternoons with children between the ages of five to 16 years eligible to enter. All types of performers are welcome so if you're a singer, a dancer, a comedian or even a magician we want to see you. Our grand prize is £500 plus our lucky winner will get to perform alongside myself at the Sunday Rising finale on September 4.

The proceeds of Scotcon 2016, the board, executive committee and volunteers are proud to support Citizens Advisory Bureau - Stirling and Youth Theatre Arts Scotland with a portion of the proceeds from overall ticket sales. Additional charities are involved in the event and they will be raising funds by coordinating certain areas and attractions of the festival for their programmes.

Each charity has been chosen because of a personal connection with the global team members, and they are passionate about supporting each cause. I hope you will join us at Scotcon as I'm sure you’ll agree it set to be a fantastic weekend celebrating our wonderful country, it's rich history and it's people.

I should warn you now though if a certain Mr Heughan does make a guest appearance on the day, along with his fellow cast members already confirmed, this wee lassie will need more than a stiff dram and a haggis fritter to revive her. Although throw in a black pudding supper and you might be in with a shout.
