It's here, number 30. I can't quite believe my challenge is complete. I can't think of a better way to finish off my year than with a spa day with my family.

Our spa destination of choice was the Marine hotel in Troon. Troon holds a lot of personal meaning to me as my Grandad lived there for years, and had it not been for him this year would have been certainly more tricky. He passed away earlier this year so being in Troon is another wee nod to the infamous Himmy Jalliday (double dutch- Jimmy Halliday).

The weekend kicked off with my sister unwell and unable to attend. Absolutely devastating, she had gone to a massive amount of effort for me and this finale and it truly was heart-breaking. However I had my cousin Rach and cousin-in-law Breda for company. We were going to make the most of it. We headed off after a beautiful lunch hosted by my aunt - 30 birthday balloon and all! Cannot believe my birthday year has come to an end. It was a surreal feeling. I'd set myself a task, to help turning 30 be as enjoyable and exciting as possible. Mission accomplished.

We had a lovely afternoon spending our time in the spa and generally relaxing. We headed up early to get ready for our lovely dinner in the two fat ladies restaurant, which is part of the hotel.

You'd think it would be all plain sailing after the disappointing start, not so lucky, my poor cousin Rachael ended up with an allergic reaction to something in her dessert. Panic stricken we manage to get antihistamines and some time to calm and regroup. At this stage I was less than enthusiastic about my finale. It comes in threes. So I was preparing myself for the next.

Rachael made a good recovery and we headed back to the bar to celebrate the best we could. That's when the third struck (or so we thought) poor Breda was trying to drink and the straw that she had been given had a hole in it! Travesty!!! This was just what we needed, it made us laugh and luckily easily solved. New straw and a couple more drinks and we were laughing at the antics of the weekend so far. Not to mention the bowl of nuts on the table in front of us. Luckily it was swiftly removed before any more allergies could occur! Back to the room for a bit of a pj party and then it was bedtime to prepare for lovely spa treatments in the morning.

A new day as they say, let's start a fresh. Unfortunately the experience wasn't quite as relaxing as I had hoped. The memory of the previous evening and then getting locked in the treatment room as the handle broke off the door wasn't the most relaxing of mornings. You honestly couldn't make this up. However facial was great. I did enjoy and felt very chilled on going back to the room. It helped undo some of the misfortune.

Our day was over. We were heading for a walk along Troon beach before going home. As we went to pack the car, the 30th balloon that I tied to my bag snapped off and flew off into the distance. The symbolism did not pass us by. It was actually emotional. My adventures had come to an end. All be it with a final bang. We had to laugh at all the goings on. Certainly memorable.

This year has been phenomenal. I've got to thank each and everybody that helped along the way either by accompanying me or supporting me through each wonderful adventure. I've been overwhelmed by all my family and friends far and near. Now unfortunately I've a few adventures, people and places that I've not managed to see, just means I've more to do next year. This year has taught me to make the most of everything. And it's actually easier than you think. I've enjoyed every single moment of my 30 things, all different and so many memories to treasure for me. I'm not planning to stop, I just won't be counting next year. I've had a year full of incredible highs and some lows in between, understandably, however I wouldn't change any of it.

Thank you - you all know who you are. It's family and friends that mean the world to me and this year has been wonderful. Love you all x
