1 Easterhouse:
A massive new housing estate built in the 1950s to rehouse those from the slum clearances.
2 Shettleston: Originally a village in its own right, it incorporates Greenfield and Sandyhills.
3 Carntyne: Its name comes from the Gaelic for 'fire cairn' because of the coal mines in the area.
4 Bridgeton: Brigton to Glaswegians, it started as a small weaving village.
5 Tollcross: It has a popular park and is home to the Commonwealth Games pool.
6 Parkhead: Famous for being the home of Celtic, it was also a weaving village.
7 Dennistoun: Dennistoun palais and Lulu put the area on the map, and it has Alexandra Park.
8 Cranhill: Another 1950s scheme, most of the original houses have been demolished.
9 Baillieston: As far east as you can go, it is the gateway to Glasgow from the East.
10 Dalmarnock: Former industrial area transformed by the Commonwealth Games and the Athletes' Village.
