IF I said the words Alderaan, Carbonite and Wookie to you would you know what I'm talking about?

How about if I throw in Death Star, Jedi and Yoda?

Yes, I am, of course, talking about that Galaxy far, far away with its Evil Empire, Jedi Knights and Harrison Ford wearing tight black trousers and knee high boots - sounds more like heaven really.

Star Wars is coming back to the box office next year and the director and casting crew have decided to hold open auditions for their lead roles right here in Glasgow on Saturday at the Science Centre.

The try-outs had been due to take place at the city's Wasp Studios earlier this month, but were put off because of the overwhelming response to an open casting call in Bristol.

More than 5000 people turned up over two days and most had to be turned away by the casting crew.

But what did they expect?

I mean who wouldn't want to be in a movie where you'd get to fight with lightsabers, cuddle cute little Ewoks while jumping in and out of Hyperspace?

I have been utterly obsessed with this fantasy tale ever since I first clapped eyes on Episode IV A New Hope as a child.

My Dad loved the movies and had recorded it for me one Christmas and we sat down and watched it together.

Apparently my wee six-year-old jaw was on the floor for most of the film and when it finished I immediately ran over the VHS recorder to rewind it back and watch it all over again.

My love of Star Wars has never left me, I've got a huge poster from the original movie hanging on my bathroom wall and a few years ago I dressed up as Princess Leia for Halloween, although I must stress for the easily offended or faint hearted it was the white dress and bun head hair do outfit and not the famous Gold Bikini, I don't think Glasgow would be quite ready for that just yet.

Best of luck to all of you who are planning on going along to audition on Saturday.

There are thousands of people expected to turn up for their big chance to star in a Hollywood blockbuster especially with the hottest director in town, JJ Abrams at the helm so I'm thinking that's going to be one galactic queue.

Wrap up, stay warm and may the force be with you, always.

WELL that's us off and running, oh, yes we are!
