1 Cheddar:
The best-known British cheese, it originated in Somerset and is produced round the world.
2 Stilton: An English cheese that comes in two varieties, white and blue.
3 Wensleydale: Produced in Yorkshire it is sometimes produced as a blue cheese and with additives such as cranberries.
4 Lanark Blue: A Scottish blue cheese made from unpasteurised sheep's milk.
5 Dunlop: From the village of Dunlop in Ayrshire, it is a mild, sweet cheese that resembles Cheddar.
6 Red Leicester: Crumblier than cheddar, it is coloured orange using an extract.
7 Crowdie: A low-fat Scottish cream cheese, often eaten with oatcakes.
8 Stinking Bishop: Produced in Gloucestershire from cows' milk, so called because of its smell.
9 Caerphilly: Soft crumbly cheese with a high fat content and a sour tang.
10 Gloucester: A traditional semi-hard cheese made from Gloucestershire cattle since the 16th Century.
