This week: I gig like I’m 18 again, find out how Big Hearted Scots are and learn all I want for Christmas is a ‘Face Designer’!

The Gig - Stereophonics

I was Oasis. October 1995, I could be found queueing outside HMV for ‘What’s the Story Morning Glory’. My music tastes have moved on since then... and so, largely, has the publics’. However, Brit-Pop remains a thing and, perhaps surprisingly, a fairly big movement, if the crowds at the Stereophonics gig last weekend were anything to draw note from.

The feverish appeal of the Welsh band - not just how hot Kelly Jones is - could be that there aren’t many folk doing Indie Rock (think of that how you will) and, well, we all love to reminisce. I, for one, was transported back to grungier days, through classics such as ‘Have a Nice Daaaaay’ (sung with Gallagher swagger) and the rocksome ‘Bartender and the Thief’.

If I’m honest, I’m not totally sold on their new stuff - which could be why despite being festival regulars they don’t get much radio play - however, I hope the Stereophonics stick around, mainly so I can pretend I’m a teenager again.

The Event - Debenhams Beauty Launch

I was made-up to be asked to open the new beauty hall at Debenhams Silverburn and launch their Christmas extravaganza. As I faced the crowd, I felt a wee bit like an Avon lady - lifelong dream fulfilled!

The store is certainly a looker when it comes to the beauty department and now has two new faces: Armani (Armani does make-up, who knew!) and Bobby Brown. It was a great night and I learnt a few tips from Cesar Santos who calls himself a ‘Face Designer’. I think I could do with one of them every morning to iron-out the bed wrinkles.

I went back to face-test three of the counters top festive looks and the results can be seen in the ET paper next Wednesday.

WARNING: The snapper also caught me without make-up on - just thought I better warn you in advance - don’t want you choking on your tea!

The Awards - Big Hearted Scotland

There are many myths about the Scots. This week, I presented the Big Hearted Awards and was delighted to be part of dispelling a few; not only do many of us give generously with our time to others but we’re also extremely charitable with our dosh. Scrooge Mc-what?

The Awards recognise those who quietly (and, usually, unceremoniously) give back to Scotland - making it a beautiful country, both inside and out. There are many (and I’m sure there are a few in your own lives) who deserve a mention, but my hero of the night was Isobel Kirkwood who won the award for Fundraiser of the Year. Isobel has raised more the £20,000 for ex-service men and women through the charity Erskine. Pretty impressive. But even more so when you learn Isobel is 94 years young and still fundraising!

Wee Bird Recommends

Wee Bird likes a bit of burrito, so when someone suggested we try out the new Juan Chihuahua on Sauchiehall Street, we said ‘Go on Juan’! It’s probably the most fun you can have with a Mexican in Glasgow, so this week Wee Bird recommends taco-ing yourself along.
