This week, who's got The Look: where to get coiffed in the city, Bra-vo to Debenhams and currying favour with the vegetarians at Usha's.

The Look Awards @ Radisson Blu

Glasgow was looking good on Sunday night as the most gorgeous of industries - Hair and Beauty - got together to celebrate the year's successes in the first ever Look Awards at the Radisson Blu. Not one to turn down an excuse to get my glad rags on, I was delighted to be invited but I knew that with the calibre of clobber likely to be on show, I'd need to step up my game. And, suffice to say, everyone looked incredible, both the over and, er, under dressed (I definitely saw a few pairs of knickers!)

The event was hosted by Knoxy from Clyde, who is my hair idol: that girl got coif! There was a fancy champagne reception and goody bags full of treats from the sponsors, HD Brows, Osmo Hair Care and Tantruth. There was also great food and music, I was introduced to a great new singer/songwriter from Paisley called John Rush - worth checking out on Soundcloud.

What you lot probably want to know, though (rather than how good the food was) is where you should go for your next 'do'. The big winners on the night included Blow (in Finnieston), who scooped two awards - Small Hair Salon of the Year and Best Use of Social Media - they're high on my list of places to try in the next wee while. Plus, Glasgow innovator The Rainbow Rooms, who were also double winners on the night, taking both Best Hair Stylist and Large Salon of the Year.

Of course, it's not just about the ladies (occasionally!) and lads, I'm sure you want to know where to get your short, backs and sides, waxed, plucked and shaved too. A big part of the night was singing the praises of the growing barber scene in Scotland. Rebel Rebel took the top prize, but there was also commendation for Ruffians (from Edinburgh) and House Martins Barbers on Bath Street is the one to watch. So, now you know where to get The Look… no more bad hair days Glasgow!

Bra Fit Month @ Debenhams

In addition to my growing baby bump, I also seem to have two other growing lady lumps… my husband has taken to, generously, thanking the pregnancy 'Booby Fairy' for them. He's delighted and, to be honest, as someone who was always closer to peaches than melons, I'm pretty chuffed about the development too.

However, it's meant that all my old undies have had to be packed away, undercover, at the back of the drawer, probably never to be seen again. So, when I heard it was Bra Fit month at Debenhams, I decided it was the perfect excuse to go and get a wee bit of support! Not only do they offer scheduled appointments to check your size (ALWAYS bigger than you expect!), shape and style, for the month of May they're also offering £5 off every £30 you spend.

I was surprised to discover just how much the Booby Fairy had granted my husband's wishes: I have gone up nearly four sizes. The lovely Iona helped me not just with bra sizing but with bra browsing too - searching out the perfect maternity, nursing and plain sexy lingerie for me to try on.

A staggering 75% of women wear the wrong size of bra, so ladies, perhaps many more of you have been visited by the fairy than you think! So, don't make a boob of bra shopping, get yourself to Debenhams: you can't get better than a bra-fit fitter!

*Also this month, you can beautify two birdie bits with one shop: Benefit in Debenhams are giving 100% of the proceeds from their Brow Bar to cancer charity Look Good Feel Better AND they'll even give you a free full-sized Gimme Brow to say taa!

Dinner @ Ushas

It's national Vegetarian week, so Dear Green, I'm afraid you have no excuse for not eating your greens! In fact, though, according to Peta, Glasgow is the best city in the UK for vegetarian and vegan restaurants. We've also won the Curry Capital of the UK more times than any other city, so this week, I thought I'd combine our two culinary crowns and try out the ever popular Usha's.

Usha's, on the corner of Dumbarton and Byres Road, is the only entirely vegetarian Indian restaurant, which seems incredible in a city with a veritable pakora of Indian restaurants. What's, perhaps more surprising, though, is that despite its popularity Usha's is also heading to the dark side in a few weeks, with plans to add meat and fish into the mix.

Currently, it's menu is large and a wee bit difficult to navigate; it does show how clever you can be with veggie Indian food, though: there are nearly a hundred dishes to choose from! However, everything comes in either tapas-style size or sharing platter, meaning the more the merrier; both in terms of dishes and folk you're dining with!

We ordered, Paneer Pakora, Aloo Palak Poori and poppadoms to start, followed by Jaipur Curry, Tarka Dal, boiled rice, Szechwan Triple Rice and a Peshawari Naan. It was perhaps a wee bit enthusiastic, even if it was for sharing between two three! All the dishes were lovely and fresh and as far away from a luminous tikka masala as you can get. Our only regret was the Szechwan Triple Rice, which was more like spaghetti and ketchup, and remained largely untouched.

The vibe inside is cosy and welcoming and the perky head waiter who showed us to our table was entertaining with a side of stand-up. In fact, in general the service was very good, if a bit slow at times, but I'll put that down to all those freshly cooked curries.

It's a shame Usha's will lose it's crown as the city's only vegetarian Indian Restaurant in a few weeks time. If anything, their extensive menu could do with fewer dishes, not more. However, the addition of a fish or meat section would certainly make it easier for me to persuade my other half to go back. That, and the lure of one of their delicious Mango Lassis!

Wee Bird Recommends

You don't get more Weegie than the Waverley (forgetting about Bucky, just for a moment!) This weekend, celebrating 40 years of preservation, special cruises are setting sail on the Waverley, the world's last sea-going paddle steamer, from 10am Saturday, Sunday and Monday. So, Wee recommend finding your sea legs and going for a ride on the Clyde!
