This week, what to look forward to in the city in 2015; from the greatest gigs to smashing sports, arts action, comic times and foodie glory…

Hopefully, your auld lang hangover is beginning to clear and with a lovely weekend sandwiched (full of chip butties) between now and the first working week of 2015, it seems like the perfect time to take a wee look at what to look forward to in the city during the year ahead.

January - A long, (mostly) boring month full of tomorrows. Tomorrow I'm starting my detox. Tomorrow I'm going for a run. Tomorrow… I realise I'm beginning to sound a wee bit like Annie! However, there is a light at the end of the January tunnel! The Electric Gardens is a new event hoping to show the Botanic Gardens in a different light. The experience will run from January 23 and will include walking tours, exciting lighting, sound and music.

February - The Hydro may have helped bring some mega-watt stars to Glasgow, however, there is no place as barry as the Barras to catch a gig. One of my favourite albums of 2014 belonged to Royal Blood; despite being a small two-piece, they've more bass than Meghan Trainor would know what to do with! On February 22 and 23 they hit the Barrowlands for a gig that promises to be a rush of Royal Blood to the head!

March - Royal Blood might make a racket but, come March, Glasgow will once again play host to tennis' Davis Cup. This year, The Emirates Arena (with a 7100 seater temporary tennis court) will see the World Group tie between Britain and the United States. And, what's more, Andy Murray will take to the court for the first time in Scotland since winning Wimbledon: it's going to be ACE!

April - Judo the one about the Judo…? No? Well, the European Championships are coming to Glasgow in April. Belter! It's the first time in 20 years that the championships have been held in the UK and it's considered to be more than a knock-out boost for the sport!

May - May marks a roaring homecoming for Glasgow rock band Twin Atlantic, when they play the SSE Hydro for the first time. Last year was an incredible year for the group, with an international tour and their album Great Divide finding the number one spot in the charts. Twin Atlantic aren't just a successful rock group, they're our successful rock group!

June - My spider-sense is telling me that one of the geekiest geek fests will hit the city in June: the Glasgow Comic Con! Now heading into the fifth dimension - it's fifth year - GCC15 aims to be the biggest and most 'super' so far. Marvel at the hundreds of artists, writers, publishers and sellers, plus our very own Scottish Independent Comic Book Awards. Kapow!

July - Tollcross Swimming Centre was one of the most exciting places to be during the Commonwealth Games last year. However, this July they will play host to the IPC Swimming World Championships, one of THE biggest events to make a splash in the para-sport calendar. The competition will see 650 athletes from 60 countries compete and will mean direct qualification (for some) for the Rio Olympics.

August - August is in the bag! The World Pipe Championships return to Glasgow Green this summer, after the city won the right to host the event until 2021. The championships, fondly known as 'The Worlds' attract not just hundreds of pipers and fans, but draw a huge audience from around the world who love the chanter banter as much as we do!

September - 2014 saw the Glasgow eating scene get a good burgering. However, there were also several restaurants that upped the dining game, like Ox and Finch and The Gannet - who were awarded Bib Gourmands. However, 2015 is the Year of Food and Drink in Scotland, so could this be the year we see the city get it's first Michelin star? Results are out this month: I'll dine out to that!

October - There has certainly been a bit of controversy surrounding the deal that led the MOBOs to be hosted in Glasgow every two years from 2009 until 2015. However, as this could be the last year of the MOBOs in the city, it might be time to get your grime on - if you haven't already! MOBOs: October 6.

November - OK, I'm flipping excited about this one. From the end of October to the beginning of November, Glasgow will host the World Gymnastics Championships; an event, arguably, as big as the Commonwealth Games. Ok, not quite, but they're still a whopper! The Championships will see 500 gymnastics from 80 countries around the world compete to be crowned the most flexible of all. Tickets are almost all sold out, so if you fancying going along, you'll need to jump to it!

December - Glasgow certainly knows how to paint the town! Last year, three out of the four Turner Prize nominees - the biggest bust in the art world - were graduates of the Glasgow School of Art. So, it feels absolutely right that this year the city has been picked, for the first time, to host the Turner Prize at the Tramway. The exhibition will open through November and December and the 2015 winner will be announced towards the end of the run.
