This week, giving the Harlem Globetrotters a pass, making a boob at Debenhams and delicious cocktails (and waiters) at Roganos.

The Sport

When I was wee, I really wanted to play basketball. There were two problems with this dream. Firstly, I'm far too little (the shorts are more like trousers on me) and secondly when I finally got a hoop for my 12th birthday, I was given a netball hoop by mistake. W-hoops.

Never mind. I'm still a fan of the b-ball. So, it was a shame that disappointment also dribbled in to my first experience of the Harlem Globetrotters, when I went to see them at The Hyrdo this week.

For those not in the know, the Harlem Globetrotters are the WWF of basketball. They've been around for over 85 years and have a long history of wowing the crowds with an entertaining mix of skill, trickery and comedy. They were meant to be amazing. Once.

It's a show but the story is of a game, with the Globetrotters playing another team, the fall guys to their supposed funny. Along with actual game-play there's the odd comedy cameo - which might have been entertaining but it was hard to tell, either because of poor sound or poor scripting - and a few dance routines. Frankly, though, I've seen better moves in The Corinthian on a Saturday night.

The Hyrdo is a great venue and despite being a near sell-out, the atmosphere was as flat as the court. The Harlem Globetrotters may be the team that brought basketball the slam-dunk and the alley-oop, but in the future I think I'll give them a pass.

The Event

According to a recent survey, Glaswegian lassies have the smallest bra's in the country (aye, but possibly the biggest mouths, as my friend declared!) at 32DD. However, it might not actually be because of their bust, the study also found that 63% of women are wearing the wrong size of over-the-shoulder-boulder-holder. This incredibly high-brow research has led Debenhams to declare this month Bra Fit month.

Scottish boobs are a jubbily three sizes bigger than our English neighbours, which makes it all the more important that we find a bra that fits in all the right places. So, the department store are hosting a series of events and complimentary fittings (for everyone) over the next four weeks.

On Thursday, I popped along for a glass of bubbly and a VIP bra fit session. It was very uplifting… all the more so when you learn that bad bras can give you headaches, back ache and even indigestion.

So if you, or the lady in your life are longing for some new lingerie, it's worth heading in store to find out more. Och, April, isn't it bra!

The Bar

People murmur about Rogano's with a reverence usually reserved for the past, which is fitting as it's one of the cities oldest and chicest bars and restaurants, having first opened it's doors in the 1930's.

To this day, walking through the swing doors you feel as though you're transported into times gone by. It's a beautiful art deco building, with designs based on the Queen Mary liner which was built nearby on the Clyde, another reason it's a bit of a Glasgow institution.

It's claimed to be one of the best seafood restaurants in the UK, but this week I wasn't there to sample the salmon, it was a wee mid-week celebration that warranted cocktails rather than fishtails.

The downstairs bar is elegant sophistication… what do you mean, of course I fitted right in! With it's long marble bar and deep leather booths, I like to imagine important trysts and business being done over Old Fashioneds - à la Mad Men. The drinks menu is mouth-watering and the service flawless. Or perhaps I have that the wrong way round, our waiter was a bit dishy too, a little Don Draper. But that could be the cocktails talking…

Wee Bird Recommends

It's Easter, so apart from cramming plenty of chocolate eggs into your mouth, it also means it's a Monday holiday! What's more, the sun is meant to shine. So, this week, Wee Bird would like to recommend our two favourite Glasgow beer gardens - Brel on Ashton Lane for feeling sunny side up and West Brewery for it's lovely views to the People's Palace. A beery Happy Easter folks!
