This week; peace, love and karaoke at The Bodyguard at The Kings, Debenhams fashion at the GoMA and by George, someone's going to have a hot date!

The Bodyguard @ The Kings

The Bodyguard is an odd film; a thriller that's strangely amusing, perhaps because if it was any more cheesy it would come with chips on the side. It was panned by critics when it was released, however, the classy soundtrack with Whitney Houston's mega vocals propelled it to become an enduring favourite amongst the lassies. So, it's not surprising that smart someone decided to make it into a musical.

The stage version hit London's West End in 2012 and, like the film, it received mixed reviews. Since then, it has been reworked and recast. This year, it set off on its first national tour, with Glasgow the second stop. I went along with my bloke (kicking and screaming) to see it at The Kings this week.

The show starts with all the bells and whistles of a Beyoncé gig, there's twerking dancers, moving platforms and pyrotechnics. However, as our first introduction to Alexandra Burke as superstar 'Rachel Marron', it falls a bit flat. I can't help but wonder if it's intentional, though, because as D:Ream said, things can only get better: and they do.

Alexandra's talent is undeniable and she carries the show, through the laughs (not all were meant) and managed to hold her own with the rowdy Glasgow audience, who thought it was karaoke night down the pub, as they tried to race her to the lyrics 'And I…..eee Ayyyyyeee!' Like the star of the show, it took the crowd a wee while to fall in love with Frank Farmer (played by Stuart Reid) but, by the end, we were all as smitten as Marron.

The production values are high and along with a brilliantly morphing set (easing from palatial pad to nightclub in a few smooth moves), there's smart lighting and special effects, blurring the lines between stage and screen. The show is an exciting, surprisingly interactive (well, the songs are just so singable!) live 'experience'! I loved every minute of it.

And my bloke? He'll kill me for telling you, but so did he!

Spring and Summer Fashion @ GoMA

Spring might nearly have sprung but the only thing that's been heating up over the last few days is my boiler! However, that doesn't mean we can't look forward and dream of warmer times; an Easter heatwave, perhaps, if certain reports are to be believed! We shall see!

Last night, though, it was the turn of Debenhams to launch their Spring/Summer collection (SS15) at the Gallery of Modern Art, what a brilliant location for a catwalk show! It may have been drecht outside, but inside it was all floaty florals, 70s summer vibes and, pantone colour of the year, Marsala (which is much more sexy than the Friday night curry it suggests).

What Debenhams do so well is that they mix their own pieces with their Designers for Debenhams ranges, which include 'clothes hangers' from different ends of the fashion spectrum: Henry Holland (daft prints and tiny-t's, for the young at heart) to Julien MacDonald (frocks and frocks for grown up glamour) and, for the boys, Patrick Grant (our very own suave Saville Row sewing bee!). It's probably one of the only shops that me, my Mum and Dad can shop in together!

There were several beautiful pieces in their new collection, some I had my eye on more than others. Like the male model (pictured) who strutted his stuff on the catwalk with just a pair of speedos on! Not all men can get away with budgie smugglers, but he certainly pulled them off (not literally!).

Now all we need is for the sun to come out. Pleeeeeaaaaaase!

Dinner with George Clooney @ Top Secret Location

Sadly, this wasn't in my diary this week *sigh*, but come November it will be for one lucky person! I'm not really one for prize draws, I could never guess the number of sweets, the weight of the cake or get the electric thingy from one end of the wire to the other. However, for this competition, I think I might need to make an exception!

This week, it was announced that Social Bite and Itison have joined forces to give people the opportunity to donate £5 to charity and, at the same time, be entered into a draw to win dinner with George Clooney. A date with Dr Doug Ross! Swoooon! When the competition was released, I checked, and double checked, my calendar to make sure it wasn't April the 1st!

Social Bite is amazing social enterprise that helps feed, employ and support homeless people across Scotland, as well as making seriously tasty pieces for folk to buy for their breakfast, lunch or dinner. 100% of their profits go to good causes. They last got together with Itison at Christmas, when they created one of the most successful online charity drives. Nearly 36,500 people - including Nicola Sturgeon, Sir Chris Hoy and Michelle Mone - bought a homeless person Christmas dinner with a voucher from the site, raising £181,000 for the charity.

Clearly the chance to win a hot date with George is the exciting bit, but to be able to do so AND help support homeless people around Scotland, it's win win!

Wee Bird Recommends

Daaa-da-da-da, daaa, da da daaa… That's meant to be the start of the Superman theme tune and, hopefully, the perfect introduction to one of the hottest tickets in Glasgow this weekend. The RSNO will play the music of John Williams (Star Wars, E.T, Harry Potter to name a few) at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall tomorrow at 3pm and 7.30pm. There's only a few tickets left, but Wee recommend getting your Superhero pants on and grabbing one while you can!
