€¢ Who are you?
Fallon Carberry, 29, owner of #Blow Finnieston
€¢ What does your business do?
We're a hair concept style and colour bar. It's a bar themed salon which has its influence from the blow dry bar concept which is so big in the States.
It focuses on the social experience for our clients and specialises in creative hair, and we have confirmed drinks sponsors who contribute to this. We specialise in on-trend colour techniques and are inspired by London fashion week and celebrity culture.
We also have a separate express bar where we offer a range of styling, blowdries and fringe trims.
€¢ Where are you based?
After months of waiting we managed to secure a place on our favourite street in Glasgow; the Finnieston strip.
We hold a number of unique pop-up events which we conduct in partnership with local businesses.
€¢ How did you get started?
I had a previous salon which was my first venture into business.
I opened it with very little finances but built it up to a point where someone made me an offer to purchase due to its success.
I accepted to gain the necessary funds for my next business idea.
€¢ What is your background?
I trained with L'oreal via Alan Edwards salon in Glasgow and Charlie Miller in Edinburgh among others, and continue to attend identified L'oreal courses which I feel are relevant to current trends.
€¢ What is your top tip?
If there's anything I learned it's about putting yourself out there and being fearless with your creativity.
All the things that I wanted to do I had to work really hard for and take calculated risks.
It is also important to keep yourself educated, read, travel and seek inspiration in what you love.
This is what keeps you ahead of your competition.
Never stop learning or rest upon current successes.
Customer service and making your client feel special should be at the heart of everything you do.
€¢ How long has your business been running?
We have been open since summer 2014 and even we have been surprised at how quickly we have built a client base.
€¢ What was your biggest mistake/or what would you do differently
I think you make ongoing mistakes to a certain degree but this is how you develop as an individual in this industry.
Every day is a new learning experience and reflecting upon how to continuously improve ways to meet the individual needs of each client is what keeps you ahead of the game.
€¢ Who was/is your mentor or inspiration?
I'm inspired by the L'oreal professional way and how they teach.
I'm constantly training and attending courses to improve my knowledge and skills.
I seek inspiration when I travel and learn a lot from different cultures.
Every time I visit a new place I come back buzzing with new ideas and am totally fascinated with the world's nationalities and cultures, and how they use colour and creativity to express themselves.
€¢ Where do you plan your business to be in five years time?
So many plans and not enough hands. Next step is to open #BLOW in Edinburgh ...then who knows
