Maria Sharapova: Only one victory, in 2004, against Serena Williams.

Pat Cash: The Australian memorably climbed into the Wimbledon stands after beating Ivan Lendl to claim the 1987 title.

Amelie Mauresmo: Andy Murray's new coach was a surprise winner in 2006, beating Justine Henin.

Goran Ivanisevic: The Croatian was a Wimbledon favourite when he won in 2001.

Ann Jones: The British woman recorded her only victory in 1969, beating Billie-Jean King.

Arthur Ashe: The stylish American beat Jimmy Connors in a marathon Centre Court final in 1975.

Jana Novotna: After two final defeats ended in tears, the Czech girl won the title in 1998.
