The most likely explanation for Clyde's nickname is they were a wee team playing to a high, or bully standard.

THE STAGGIES: Ross County's badge is a stag's head, taken from the badge of the Seaforth Highlanders.

THE SONS: Short for Sons of the Rock, it is the nickname of Dumbarton.

THE BLUE BRAZIL: Cowdenbeath adopted the ironic nickname during a poor run of form in the 1990s.

THE HONEST MEN: A line from the Burns poem Tam O'Shanter gives Ayr United its nickname.

THE RED LICHTIES: Taken from the red light used to guide fishing boats to harbour at Arbroath.
