In Studio 404, South Block, Osborne Street, in Glasgow city centre.

What does your business do?

We began primarily as a design agency, offering graphic design and web design to a range of clients. We are now a 13-strong, full service creative agency, offering graphic design, web design and development, marketing, video production, photography and social media services.

How did you get started?

When I decided to start on my own I had £1000 in the bank and a two-week-old baby. I had a laptop, mobile phone and rented desk in an office in the city centre. I held client meetings in Starbucks.

After a couple of months, I found a desk space at South Block and began working alongside freelance graphic designers. Before long, I employed them.

What is your background?

I have a degree in Multimedia Systems BSC and am a professional photographer and graphic designer. I spent eight years as creative director at a Glasgow design agency, followed by seven months as a freelance designer before establishing MadeBrave.

What is your top tip?

Don't be scared to take a risk. Getting out there and speaking to people is also one of the most important things you can do.

How long has your business been running?

Since March 2012.

Did anyone help you get started and, if so, how?

The biggest help has been the support of friends and colleagues who have given invaluable advice. Attending business and networking events and seminars has been hugely beneficial in building my business.

What was your first deal?

My first client was Scottish Renewables. It asked me to rebrand the company and since then its events revenue has increased 35%. It is still one of my best clients.

Who was or/is your mentor/inspiration?

My team is my inspiration. The very talented individuals push each other creatively to produce the best designs and campaigns possible.

Where do you plan your business to be in five years?

To be a respected brand that is known nationally for working with the some of Scotland's best emerging talent and to continue to work with high-profile brands.
