1 Local Hero (1983)

The Bill Forsyth classic was filmed in several locations, including Pennan in Aberdeenshire, Morar and Arisaig.

2 Trainspotting (1996) Danny Boyle's Oscar nominated movie was shot in Glasgow and Edinburgh as well as Corrour Station in the North West Highlands.

3 Gregory's Girl (1981) The classic coming-of-age romantic starring John Gordon Sinclair, Dee Hepburn and Clare Grogan that was set in and shot around the Abronhill district of Cumbernauld,

4 Whisky Galore The 1949 classic took much of its flavour from the island of Barra, on which it was filmed

5 Chariots of Fire (1981) The West Sands beach in St Andrews was used for scenes in this Oscar winning film.

6 Braveheart (1995)

The Lochaber area, including Ben Nevis, formed part of the backdrop for the dramatic opening scenes.

7 Skyfall (2012)

Glencoe and Glen Etive enjoyed starring roles in the last Bond film.

8 Harry Potter series Features memorable shots of the Hogwart's Express crossing the Glenfinnan viaduct.

9 One Day (2011) Though only a small part of the film, starring Anne Hathaway, any viewer will tell you that Edinburgh's role in the story is absolutely crucial.

10 The Da Vinci Code (2006) The beautiful Rosslyn Chapel in Midlothian played an important role in Dan Brown's blockbuster.
